Candice Rountree hails from Washington, DC where she received a BA in Child Development from Southeastern University and a MSA in Educational Administration from Trinity Washington University. She is certified in Early Childhood Education and in School Administration (ASC). She has served in multiple teaching and leadership capacities in DC, Maryland, and internationally in West Africa throughout her career of 20 years. At her current post, she serves as a Reading Resource Teacher/Reading Coach with Charles County Public Schools.  She has also served CCPS as a Special Education Case Manager in grades K-1.  Formerly, she served in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in West Africa as the School’s Service Learning Leader for the elementary school,  a DEIJ Steering Committee member, the MSA Accreditation committee chair for the early childhood department, a mentor, and most recently department head for upper elementary grades. She has acted as a grade level chair and professional development co-facilitator for the DC Public School System.

In addition to her commitment to children, Ms. Rountree is passionate about adult learning. She developed the first ever teacher learning platform, Collaborative Teacher Training Program (CTT), to promote teacher efficacy, build positive school climate and culture, and boost student achievement through rigorous  learning experiences facilitated by teachers. She strikes a balance between school mandated and teacher selected professional learning. Her program helped to meet school-wide instructional goals, promotes school vision and mission, and maintain a highly qualified teacher workforce all while respecting educator voice and choice.

She is a member of several educational organizations, i.e. SENIA, NAESP, NAEYC and recently AIELOC. She is a servant leader as well as a transformational leader. She believes in management through the building of relationships based on trust, honesty, collaboration and respect. She believes that, “the answers are always in the room” and that we do a disservice to schools, families, and students when we neglect to seek them.

Candice has a family of 5 to include one grandson, one daughter, and 2 sons, however only her two sons, Desmond (14) and Dominic (11) accompany her abroad.  When she is not planning, collaborating and innovating, she enjoys reading, singing and dancing, event planning, home renovation and decor, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and resting when she needs to rest.  She is empathetic and caring. She is a champion for well-being in her workplace and personal life.

Seamus Hennessy, Director ICSA

Candice is a well liked and effective leader at ICSA. Her leadership style is based around empathy. When making decisions student and staff welfare are always a first priority.  Candice is a member of the DEIJ lead committee in a school where the racial mix is far more complex than in most international schools. She has successfully helped to steer this committee in a direction that is effective and appreciated by all due to her compassionate and empathetic leadership style. Candice knows that teachers in the classrooms are the best people to lead professional development and has set up a PD system across the school that allows this to happen.

I am fortunate to know Candice as both a friend and colleague. In the time I have known her, she has always demonstrated compassion, integrity, comradery and numerous other hats that make her a special person.  As a friend, she has been a listening ear, an advocate, and part of my family support network.  As a colleague, she is a model of professionalism. I have learnt a lot from her as a co-teacher, a coach and a leader. While in her sphere of influence, one cannot help but to raise their game.  In conclusion, wherever Candice goes, those around her will call themselves fortunate to have her as a friend and colleague."
